The Roma Body Politics, exhibition, education program and catalog is an innovative community initiative. It focuses on unmasking the majority’s perceptions, its operation in the past and in the present by exploring the connection between the humiliation and vulnerability of the Roma and the depiction and representation of the Roma body. The organizers worked with Roma and non-Roma civic organizations, artists and scientists to create 3 domestic exhibitions, and 1 international summary exhibition. The knowledge produced was to be multiplied and disseminated at the experts’ workshops by the art education program and by the capacity building in office created for Roma artists. The long term impact of the project is ensured by the catalogue and the broad-scope artistic and creative communications campaign. It prepares its target group & audience for the fight against racism, it points to the hidden and subtle mechanisms of Roma oppression, with special attention to the double minority position of Roma women.
