The number of people asking for asylum has been drastically growing in Hungary during the last two years. Their final destination mostly is Western Europe. Unaccompanied minors are exposed to serious danger. In county Csongrad 415 out of 484 children escaped in 2013. Those who decide to stay are also deeply traumatized and have to face the prejudice of Hungary. There is no prepared strategy for supporting their integration while avoiding the serious problems which may arise later.
The goal was to strengthen realistic self-esteem, develop their problem-solving skills, and to help them deal with crisis and traumatic events. The project aimed at developing a paradigm shift among Hungarian youngsters, helping qualify future experts by 4400 hours of art therapy sessions. Expected results were: fewer breakouts from the Center, improvement in the quality of the children's life and their social contribution. Target groups were: unaccompanied minors, juveniles and youngsters who are either refugees or asking for asylum or became victims of human trafficking.
