There are more people dying of cancer in Hungary than in the western countries, and in Bekes county this number is growing. The psychosocial help of both the patients and their relatives-friends is very important, the quality of life can lead to healing. At the moment there is no such help available in Bekes county, people who would like to participate in something like thi, have to travel more than 100 km, which is not affordable for most. The aim of the project therefore was to create and maintain the psychosocial balance of the patients. The organizers found it important to break down taboos and dissolve fears. They organized group-meetings every week, where actual questions can be discussed, and invited experts (oncologist, psychologist, dietitian) each month. In addition, they organized excursions, where patients and doctors could get to know each other as people, without uniforms. The organizers providedo consultation on dietetic and life style issues, organized group therapies, and created a website.
