In Hungary segregated Roma students have learning difficulties. Their self-esteem is low, they have anti-school attitude, group norms can encourage deviant behavior and all these can cause social tension. The main objective of the project was to empower youth to take actions against exclusion, racism, hate. The project aimed to raise awareness, to make the integrated education accepted, to lower prejudices against Roma and poor people.
The project team prepared the messages, elaborated concept of the training and the campaign; they also rethought the board game concept to make it more interactive. The web2 campaign was continuous during the project with the help of #szívvel_érvekkel. Many graphic appearances were designed and used in stickers, badges and T-shirts. The campaign contained a roadshow, too with 17 stops (mainly sensitizing workshops were held) in several places and programs.
With the help of the training they reached directly 120 youth and ngo representatives. As a multiplication effect, almost every training participants made an own campaign – 60 events: most of them used the board game, and each of them was about integrated education. An “equal opportunities competition” was launched. 87 applicants gave in 122 artworks in 3 categories: text, photo or T-shirt designs which were assessed by a 3-member jury. The aim was to spread the message of the project, so voting was open for everyone and also audience awards were announced.
With the help of the “Additional Grant” the project promoter had the chance to elaborate a new board game titled “System error – build a better school system” and a belonging short image film was prepared. The closing event was also dedicated to equal opportunities.
