The project fosters the social integration of young adults living with autism by setting up socio-therapeutic self-help groups and developing supportive environment for their families. In the groups they learn behaviuors and abilities that enable autistic participants to live an autonomous life. Their parents develop a network of contacts and partnerships that will strengthen the families’ competence and advocacy capacity. The socio-therapeutic groups aimed at coping with the feelings of isolation and helplessness of the participants; in the later stage they can evolve to a self-help group involving young professionals thus integrating the helpers and the autistic people; finally the groups may become self-sustaining with new members. Members of self-help groups would be able to create additional groups, thus multiply the number of people who receive and are able to provide support outside the institutions.
