Public data provided by the national air quality monitoring system of Hungary is limited to a small number of bigger towns and cities, relevant only to the 1/3 of the population, and does not provide health-related information. In order to ensure better information access to the public the project has developed and set up an alternative information service based on official data but combined with modelling and computing. The main outcome of the project is the Legszennyezes.hu website that, similarly to a weather forecast service, provides more accurate information on the actual and forecasts future local air pollution situations in all settlements. As a unique feature the service also quantifies the health effects of the given air pollution situations, and suggest potential actions for prevention and mitigation.
The website has been awarded with "Website of the Year" prize in 2013.
