The project addressed the controversial situation that despite the existence of student self-governments in most schools comprehensive programs on sustainable development, active citizenship and democracy are missing. The creation of Green Student Self-Governments can provide opportunities not only for environmental education, but also for active citizenship, self-government, and democratization. The aim of the project was to develop these organizations and their network in the Hungarian secondary schools. With two three-day-long camps, several interim meetings and five different environmental actions, more than 800 students in 16 schools were directly involved. Students have been constantly communicating with a new blog, mailing lists and community media tools.
