In Hungary apathetic and hopeless youth are not able to articulate the problems they have been concerned about, however there are many problems in society that are continuously deepening. The object of the project was to teach youth express their opinion, inform them about the European society with the help of literature and methods of arts. The project promoter found it important to realize primary values and to take actions against hate speech, exclusion and violation thus the project aimed to make youth be tolerant, cooperative and conscious citizens.
In order to extend the campaign to the whole country a project Facebook page and a website were prepared. Beside many press and communication materials an image video was also published: https://goo.gl/W3JjWy
5 regional coordinators of the project -who are popular literary public figures- visited 20 schools. Finally, 21 schools from 3 regions were involved to the project however the interest was bigger so other schools could joined online.
Already the opening events attracted many visitors as the appointed coordinators performed their own writings in the first topic which was freedom of speech.
“Actor Bob” slammer worked with the pupils in every involved secondary school, altogether 269 youth participated in his slam workshops. Youth applied to a slam competition and the cooperation of local slam community was strengthened. The workshops helped especially to Roma and state-cared children to explore their talent.
The project included a series of school programs which included literature classes, “It does matter” actions and mentoring so the frames and possibility to talk about the themes were given thus participating youth could learn and express their opinion and views about freedom of speech, violence and racism. Many youngsters registered on the website and sent 450 artworks. The best works was awarded, published and also competition points were given.
4 professional days were organized in order to summarize and evaluate the project. In the three regions award ceremonies were organized where the best artworks were read out and awarded.
